It really does work out better if you do *both*, and costs practically nothing.

Windows is notrious for not implementing the DNS client protocol properly.

So, if each machine takes over the IP address of the other, once failover 
has occured, then DNS service proceeds much faster than it would have 
otherwise.   DNS entry retrieval is slower in the presence of a dead server 
than it is with failover.

It really is a good idea, many people do it successfully, and it's not that 
hard.
