Subject:    stl question?

Dear all,
     I use STL "set" to store my data(double type), 
I have so many data, I have to out put the data to
 a file when the set reach to 1000000 elements,
then I use the function erase() to clear the set,
but it seemed that the program did not release
the memory it used, who can tell me what's the
problem?
