Subject:    [ecc] Modules clarified?

Please direct me elsewhere if I am off-topic or too-newbie here:

I'm confused about the ecc module and modules in general.

1. Are modules kernel-build dependent?  Can I take a module binary built
   and working in RH kernel release kernel-2.4.20-20.1 and use it in
   kernel-2.4.20-20.9 ?

2. Can I compile and install just the (latest version) ecc module
   somehow without having to do the whole kernel.  In my application it
   is fairly critical I stay "stock redhat" in the kernel.

3. Or could someone else provide me with an (up to date) ecc.o that
   would work in RH9 that would survive kernel errata updates?
