The main advantage should be better timing. Jack-midi can
specify midi events with a resolution of one sample time.

Having midi arriving in jack's callback is an advantage for
note and controller events, but not necessarily for others
that you don't want to handle there. So you may still need the
extra thread and non-blocking communication to handle those.
