Is it elitist for a programmer to want applications to be open source?
I use Acrobat reader and it does not pain me greatly that it is closed
source, but as a coder I am also very thankful for the many open source
projects that have helped me, and I am sure the ones I have contributed
to have been equally appreciative. So, I think we're entitled to at
least have an opinion on the matter.

That said, I would like to see Linux be more popular, but I find posts
of the nature 'if Linux wants to make it big then developers should do
blah' to be somewhat misdirected. I am sure that many developers are
like myself: I code in my spare time for fun and because there is a
community of developers who appreciate my work and help me out. I am
not trying to kill Microsoft, I don't have time, I am just having fun.
