kernel: 2.4.17-rc2-rmk1 (cannot upgrade it for now ...), card services
3.1.22 builtin
cpu: StrongARM SA1110, mediaEngine box.

1. i downloaded pcmcia source version 3.1.34 and tried to compile the kernel
without pcmcia support (only modules), but some problems occured using this
package:
1. the sa1100.o module is missing. i took sa1100_cs.o from the kernel tree
and renamed it for this
2. when starting the new pcmcia script, i see these errors:
-------------------------------------------------------------
[root@IMC init.d]$/etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia start
Starting PCMCIA services: modprobe: Can't locate module pcmcia_core
modprobe: Can't locate module sa1100
modprobe: Can't locate module ds
cardmgr[205]: no pcmcia driver in /proc/devices
-------------------------------------------------------------
3. when trying to load modules manually - i encounter kernel crashes.
4. the cardctl get stuck sometimes after inserting a card, and also shows
many times the "busy" status for this socket, so i have to eject-insert many
times untill the socket is "ready"
5. i returned to the old utils and kernel , with pcmcia builtin, and
succeeded in loading cardmgr+ctl, but i have problems with 2 cards:
6a. nokia gsm cardphone - (gsm modem card)
-------------------------------------------------------------
cardmgr[225]: initializing socket 1
cardmgr[225]: socket 1: Serial or Modem
cardmgr[serial_cs: 225]: RequestConfiguration: Bad Vcc
product info: "Nokia Mobile Phones", "Nokia Card Phone"
cardmgr[225]: manfid: 0x0124, 0x0900 function: 2 (serial)
cardmgr[225]: get dev info on socket 1 failed: Resource temporarily
unavailable
-------------------------------------------------------------
6b. 3com 574 ethernet (module built in the kernel)
-------------------------------------------------------------
cardmgr[225]: initializing socket 1
cardmgr[225]: socket 1: 3Com 572/574 Fast Ethernet
cardmgr[3c574_cs: 225]: RequestConfiguration: Bad Vcc
product info: "3Com", "Megahertz 574B", "B", "001"
cardmgr[225]: manfid: 0x0101, 0x0574 function: 6 (network)
cardmgr[225]: get dev info on socket 1 failed: Resource temporarily
unavailable
-------------------------------------------------------------

7. in pcmcia serial cards , it works fine, but my /dev/ dir is operated by
the kernel (devfs) but the kernel does not create new mknod for the new
ttyS* device that cardmgr has discovered ...

8. can someone supply the full role list (2-serial,6-network, etc...) ?

thanks in advance

Gad
