For example, taken out of the iPAQ x startup script:

	case `module_id` in
		" iPAQ 3600" )	    Xipaq -screen 240x320@270 -dpi 100 & ;;
		" iPAQ 3100" )	    Xipaq -screen 240x320@90 -dpi 100 & ;;
		" iPAQ 3800" )	    Xipaq -screen 240x320@90 -dpi 100 & ;;

		* ) echo "Unknown processor type -`module_id`-!" ;;

The xrandr program is in xc/programs/xrandr.

The command line arguments set the initial rotation, and xrandr can
change the rotation on the fly.

Again, the right place to ask this sort of stuff is "xpert@xfree86.org",
which I also monitor (as do others who might answer faster than I can
when on vacation).
