Make sure that jumpers J18, J19, J21, J22 are positioned properly.  These four 
are behind and to the right of J16 (the second serial connector).  The 4 
shunts should be positioned on the left and center pins (towards the 
connector).  Otherwise the Bluetooth radio is selected.  Then just open and 
use /dev/ttyS1.  J46 (to the right of the pcmcia sockets) is on ttyS2.  J47 
and J48's shunts should be positioned to the left to enable serial operation 
as well (or to the right for IrDA).

tty1 is the dev entry for the lcd and must always be present.

Be aware that ttyS0 is the only port with full handshaking.  ttyS1 has RTS/CTS 
only, and ttyS2 is strictly txd/rxd only.  Your scanner may be wanting to see 
DTR or something like that.
