Subject: PrintDuplex 0.2
Reply-To: markus.enzenberger@t-online.de (Markus Enzenberger)

PrintDuplex is a Gnome utility for manual duplex printing and booklet
creation from Postscript files. It is a front-end to the PSUtils tools.

New in version 0.2:
The default installation directory has been changed to the Gnome directory.
The help button now works. A German translation has been added. The Page
orientation menu and paperchange dialog use images. Using PrintDuplex with
the --stdin option in the print dialog of another application will no longer
block the other application. You can now specify a margin around the
page, input and output paper sizes, and page orientation. A new print
preview mode has been added. The reverse page order option in the printer
settings works. There are lots of other bugfixes and new features.

Subject: GNU MDK version 0.3.5 released
From: "Jose A. Ortega Ruiz" <jaortega@acm.org>

GNU MDK 0.3.5 has been released. It is available from
ftp://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/mdk/ and mirrors of that site (see list of
mirror sites at http://www.gnu.org/order/ftp.html) [0].

GNU MDK provides a simulator of D. Knuth's MIX computer, and a
development environment to write, run and debug MIXAL programs on it.

New in this release:

** In gmixvm, when the mouse pointer is over a MIXAL source line, the
status bar shows the value of the variables appearing in this line.

** The current symbol table can be displayed, in gmixvm, using the menu
   command Debug->Symbols...

** Bug fix: the load, compile and run file dialogs now get the correct
   filename under linux.

** Bug fix: fonts used by gmixvm are now always correctly saved.

** Bug fix: 'psym' now works correctly in gmixvm.

** Bug fix: the symbol table for a MIX file is now correctly recovered
both in gmixvm and mixvm (negative values where incorrectly
   converted to a positive value).

Visit the MDK home page at http://www.gnu.org/software/mdk/mdk.html.

Bug reports should go to bug-gnu-mdk@gnu.org.

Enjoy!

[0] GNU MDK source and binary packages can also be downloaded from
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=13897&release_id=35894

Subject: General Graphics/Input Interface 2.0

The GGI Project is proud to announce the final release of LibGGI 2.0.
This marks a long overdue milestone in GGI Project development, as
the project is now free to move on to the next stage in its mission.

The General Graphics Interface (LibGGI) abstracts various graphics systems
such that programs coded to the LibGGI API will run interchangeably,
without recompilation. In addition, LibGGI is extendable allowing addition
of new API functions through a modular plugin-like system. Supported
backends include SVGALib, libVGL, DirectX, Linux fbdev, GLIDE, various
flavors of X11, various ASCII-art/text displays, interprocess/networked
client/server displays, and a suite of utility displays that allow you to
do such things as tile an application across multiple slave displays or
draw in memory while saving frames into files.

The General Input Interface is similar in architecture, but handles input
subsystems. In addition to supporting a plethora of input backends (linux
joystick/evdev/mouse/keyboard, vgl, DirectInput, X11 to name the favorites)
LibGII defines an architecture for filters which can transmute inputs in
very interesting ways.

If you are interested in developing a unified cross-platform graphics
library, please feel welcome on our mailing list. Subscription
instructions, bug reporting system, and additional information about
the GGI-project are available at the URL: http://www.ggi-project.org
and downloads for the current release are available at:

URL: http://www.ggi-project.org/download.php

                                                           Enjoy,

                                                           The GGI Project

Changes since 2.0b4 code-freeze:

* Documentation updates to LibGGI and LibGII
* LibGII SVGALib target fixes for back-buffer support
* More build system tweaks

Subject: nomarch 1.0 - extract `.arc' files
Reply-To: russell.marks@ntlworld.com
From: Russell Marks <russell.marks@spam^H^H^H^Hntlworld.com>

nomarch lists/extracts/tests `.arc' archives. (It also handles `.ark'
files, they're exactly the same.) This is a *very* outdated file
format which should never be used for anything new, but unfortunately,
you can still run into it every so often (especially if you mess about
with old CP/M stuff). So nomarch is handy as a way to deal with these
files.

(nomarch is primarily intended as a `replacement' for the non-Free
`arc' program.)

You can download it from ibiblio:

There's also a web page here:

Description: nomarch extracts files from the old `.arc' archive
format. (At the time of writing, it seems to be the
only Free utility available to do this.) It can also
                list and test such archives.

Subject: LessTif Release 0.93.0 is out

The LessTif Core Team is pleased to announce
      Release 0.93.0
of the LessTif library!

This is the first major release of LessTif in 2001!
The first that works well with GNU Emacs!

Other highlights include bugfixes involving NEdit, improved
internationalisation (i18n) support, and a first implementation
of printing support (works with Xinvest).
As usual we fixed some bugs in the libraries and tried to further
improve the configuration and build process.
Check out the NOTES and ChangeLog files for details on what we have done!

> From this release on, Xbae and Xlt, two widget sets that have been a part
of LessTif releases for a while, are separated from LessTif.
They will be released separately from now on, to keep release schedule
problems and configuration headaches to a minimum.

About LessTif:
LessTif is a LGPL'd implementation of the OSF/Motif standard GUI toolkit
for X11. LessTif aims to be source compatible with the OSF/Motif versions 1.2
and 2.1. We're almost done with the 1.2 part, but we still lack
some substantial parts of the 2.1 functionality. (Actually
most 2.x applications do already build, but may not work properly yet.)

So at this point, almost all Motif 1.2 apps compile and run
out of the box with LessTif! The LessTif Core team is interested
in hearing about Motif applications which don't work with LessTif.
Bug reports are welcome; patches are even more welcome!

More information, source code, and binaries for several platforms
are available at:

Over $2 billion is spent every year globally on information technology
and communications infrastructure. The research firm IDC predicts this
number will double by 2005. In fact, approximately 1 billion people will
be online in four years. Needless to say, maintaining all this gear is
a real challenge and IT support organizations are struggling to keep up
with the expansion. The classic model of a three-tier support center
falls apart in the face of such massive and complex infrastructural growth.

Enterprise services monitoring is a methodology that attempts to solve
this problem through the design of architectures that computationally
observe all components in an enterprise. Join us as Harry Johnson takes
us through the architecture topologies, the agents that watch, and where
Linux fits in the schema of enterprise-wide monitoring.

About the speaker:
For over 16 years, Harry Johnson <hj@vourtech.com> has been developing
end-to-end enterprise management facilities for the financial services
industry, including such notable firms as Goldman Sachs, Bloomberg L.P.,
Bridge Information Systems, and Golodetz Trading.
