LinuxCertified.com announces the certification bootcamp for
IT professionals on November 18-19th

- - All attendees get a free Linux laptop!

Media Contact: info@linuxcertified.com
 web site: http://www.linuxcertified.com/

LinuxCertified.com, a leading provider of Linux training, will
offer its next weekend bootcamp on November 18-19th in San
Francisco bay area (south bay). These workshops are
designed for busy information technology professionals and
prepare them for Linux Certification exams.

In addition to carefully designed lecture material delivered by
experienced Linux professionals, there is a heavy emphasis on
hands-on learning. The training starts two weeks before the actu-
al class, with access to an online Linux server, where students
complete few challenging pre-class activities. Attendees get a
powerful Linux laptop on their arrival, along with other class
materials. They load Linux on their laptop during the class, and
use it for all the class activities and assignments. At the end
of the class they take this laptop with them to further enhance
their Linux expertise. Absolute beginners with no UNIX experience
can first come to the popular "Linux for Beginners" class and
subsequently join the certification bootcamp.

Rapid growth of Linux into corporate and government IT environ-
ments is fueling the need for Linux certified professionals. CIOs
and managers are eager to have Linux experts in their organiza-
tions. A certification provides a tangible mechanism for their
hiring evaluation, as well as a means to market the prowess of
organizations.

The weekend bootcamp is specially designed to prepare the atten-
dees for the objectives of Level 1 certification exams offered by
Linux Professional Institute (LPI). The workshop also meets the
objectives of the Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) exam and Sair
Linux & GNU certification (LCA). Our attendees build a strong
sense of community with our instructors, fellow students, and our
network of recruiters and companies looking for Linux consul-
tants.

About LinuxCertified.com

The mission of LinuxCertified.com is to bring Linux to mainstream
IT usage. We firmly believe that Linux has an enormous poten-
tial, once it crosses over from the early adopters to the more
mainstream users. Our goal is to help this transition by provid-
ing:

- - Linux trained and certified professionals

- - Linux certified products that cater to mainstream users rather
than early adopters.

MEETING NOTICE
==============

  Central Ohio Linux Users Group

            Wednesday, September 27th., 1900 to 2100 local

Meeting Presentation
====================

The main presentation: -- An SSH orgy this month.

Our own Jacob Hopkins will present on the Java SSH
webclient. This was initially planned to occur in observance
of the expiration of U S Patent 4,405,829 - the RSA product
of two primes patent.

Then our own Rick Holbert will present some background on
SSH, and an example of its application in a mixed OS environment
to wrap rsync transfers with SSH for secure file transfers in
a WAN setting.

Finally Phil Hunter will work through the steps which occur
during the method for pulling inbound email from a pop or imap
server through an SSH tunnel, using OpenSSL, OpenSSH, a
ipopd/imapd server, fetchmail, and sendmail.

Goodies:

Sysadmin magazine has sent a back issue for free distribution
to the attendees, and another major 'goodie' may arrive in time as
well.

Stump the Chump^h^h^h^h^hExpert:

Always popular --- bring in that problem box, and it will probably
go home fixed.

As always, and given the informal nature of the group's
`management' and the vaguries of the presenters' schedules,
the agenda and content are subject to change.

Additionally, the _formal_ meeting ends at the stated time.
We've noticed that folks continue to stand around in the parking lot
for _hours_. We should probably adjourn to a local watering hole,
to slake thirst and sit down.

MEETING SITE:
=============
This month's meeting will be held in the Conference Room at:

        TEAM America (http://www.teamamerica.com)
        110 East Wilson Bridge Road

The building is at US-23 North and I-270 off of
East Wilson Bridge Road just around the first
        curve.

Parking is FREE !

.... The group has met on the LAST Wednesday or LAST Saturday
of a month, alternating by month to allow more folks to mesh
their schedules with COLUG's. Sites and dates also depend
on facility availabity, with common-sense relocation in the
holiday season.

The webpage always has a link to a map to the upcoming meeting
site. See: http://www.colug.net/meetings.php3

Meeting Schedule
================

The NEXT meeting is scheduled on Saturday, October 28,
2000 from 13:00 to 15:00 local -- Location is up in the air --
we've pretty well outgrown the kindly donated TeamAmerica site,
although we continue to 'shoe-horn' in until a suitable

Subject: HP-HOWTO v0.91 released
Date: Fri, 27 Oct 2000 16:29:11 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Hello,

I proudly annonce the availability of the fifth public version of the
                             HP-HOWTO

This document may be read by everyone willing to obtain informations
on Linux and HP products. The first part is a general presentation
and gives informations linked to Linux and Free Software more generally.
The third chapter gives for every reference of HP product its support
under Linux.

It was realized in SGML/DocBook to allow the automatic creation of various
formats, among them :

HTML : http://www.medasys-digital-systems.fr/linux/HP-Howto/HP-HOWTO-EN
RTF : http://www.medasys-digital-systems.fr/linux/HP-Howto/HP-HOWTO-EN.rtf
PS : http://www.medasys-digital-systems.fr/linux/HP-Howto/HP-HOWTO-EN.ps
PDF : http://www.medasys-digital-systems.fr/linux/HP-Howto/HP-HOWTO-EN.pdf
TXT : http://www.medasys-digital-systems.fr/linux/HP-Howto/HP-HOWTO-EN.txt

For those of you having a distribution supporting RPM packages,
you may install the PDF, TXT and HTML versions directly under
/usr/doc by using the following package :

RPM : http://www.medasys-digital-systems.fr/linux/HP-Howto/HP-HOWTO-EN-0.91-1.noarch.rpm

Don't hesitate to give comments on errors, missing points or
things to add. I surely have a lot to do in order to produce the 1.0
version :-)

Happy reading,
Bruno.

PS: Those wanting to help concerning my poor use of SGML are also welcome :-)

From: Sandro Sigala <ssigala@globalnet.it>
Subject: Zile 1.2 - Zile Is Lossy Emacs (Emacs clone)
Date: Fri, 27 Oct 2000 16:28:36 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Zile is another Emacs-clone. Zile is a customizable, self-documenting
real-time display editor. Zile was written to be similar as possible to
Emacs; every Emacs user should feel at home with Zile.

Zile features:

 - Small but fast and powerful. It is very useful for footprint
installations (like on floppy disk) or quick editing sessions.

 - 8-bit clean. Zile can operate with binary files.

 - Looks like Emacs. Most Zile key sequences and function names
   are identical to Emacs ones.

 - Multi buffer editing w/multi level undo. Zile can open an
infinite number of files and can record an infinite sequence of
   undo operations.

 - Multi window. Zile can display multiple windows on the screen.

 - Killing, yanking and registers. The typical killing, yanking and
register features of Emacs are available under Zile.

 - Minibuffer completion. Zile can complete the user written text.
This is very useful for `M-x' commands and for selecting files.

 - Colors. Zile makes use of the color capatibilities of the
   terminal if available.

 - Source highlighting ("C" and "C++" only for now). Zile can
highlight the "C" and "C++" source files for better reading.

 - Auto fill. Zile automatically breaks the lines when they become
too wide (if the Auto Fill Mode is enabled).

Latest version can be found at the address:
http://web.tiscalinet.it/ssigala/sandro

- ----------------------------------------------------------------------

NEWS:

Changes between Zile 1.1 - Zile 1.2

* Fixed some memory leaks thanks to the dmalloc package.
* Added alternative key bindings (`M-h' replaces `C-h') that can be set
  using the `alternative-bindings' variable.
* Now the users with home "/" and users not recorded in the `/etc/passwd'
  file are handled correctly.

From: ib@wupperonline.de (Ingo Brueckl)
Subject: blueMail 0.03 - a Blue Wave and QWK compatible mail reader
Date: Fri, 27 Oct 2000 16:29:04 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

What is blueMail?
- -----------------

blueMail is an offline mail packet reader for Unix and other systems,
based on MultiMail which was originally developed by Kolossvary Tamas,
Toth Istvan, John Zero, and then by William McBrine.

blueMail supports the Blue Wave and QWK packet formats and will support
some different formats like FTS message bases and some Internet protocols
like POP3, SMTP, and NNTP in the future. It is designed to be a reasonable
alternative to the Blue Wave mail reader. blueMail has a full screen,
colored user interface, built with the curses library, and it also compiles
under DOS, Windows and OS/2.

blueMail is free, "open source" software, distributed under the GNU
General Public License; its current maintainer is Ingo Brueckl
<ib@wupperonline.de>.

You can get the latest version from

  http://home.wtal.de/ib/bluemail

where you can find binaries for Linux (Red Hat RPM), DOS and Windows, too.

Requirements
- ------------

 * Unix-compatible (POSIX) system, DOS with DJGPP, Cygwin with Windows, or
   OS/2 with EMX
 * curses -- tested with ncurses 1.9.3+, and PDCurses 2.2+
 * gcc (g++) 2.7.0+ -- may work with other C++ compilers, not tested
 * InfoZip, and/or other compressing archivers
 * GNU make *may* be required on some systems
 * PMODE/DJ (by Thomas Pytel and Matthias Grimrath) and UPX (by Markus
Oberhumer & Laszlo Molnar) is recommended (and used) for the DOS binary

What's new in this version?
- ---------------------------

You can find a list of new features and improvements in the history file
together with a list of new options for the configuration file since
version 0.01.

Tested Systems
- --------------

blueMail will run on multiple platforms, like

  MSDOS 6.22 (DJGPP, PDCurses)
Linux 2.0, 2.2 (gcc, egcs, ncurses, PDCurses aka XCurses)
  Windows 9x/NT (Cygwin, PDCurses)

and - untested -

  OS/2 (emx, PDCurses)
  NetBSD (ncurses)
  Solaris (curses)

Don't hesitate to have a look on blueMail because of its alpha-like version
number. Though there is still a lot of work to do, it's already fully
usable.

From: Bob van der Poel <bvdpoel@uniserve.com>
Subject: VMusic 2.0 CD Cataloging program released
Date: Fri, 27 Oct 2000 16:30:11 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

I'm pleased to announce the release of my CD cataloging
program VMUSIC, version 2.0.

VMusic if a full-featured program which makes keeping track
of your CD music collection easy. The program was originally
written in TCL/TK. This release is entirely rewritten in
Python using the Tkinter toolkit -- it's much faster and
much more easy to maintain.

To run you'll need Python and Tkinter installed on your
machine. VMusic was developed with Python 1.5.2 and Tk 8.3;
however, it should work with any current release.

The 62 archive file contains the complete Python source
and complete docs in man, html and ps formats.

For uses of earlier releases there is a database
conversion program included in the archive.

VMusic is available on my personal home page:

        http://users.uniserve.com/~bvdpoel

If you have any questions or comments, please send them
to:

        bvdpoel@uniserve.com

Enjoy!
