Current release: 0.8.3 (1999-08-20)

Source code (Licence: GPL) and some screenshots available on
http://home.sol.no/~espensa/khexedit/

Khexedit is a versatile and customizable hex editor. It displays
data in hexadecimal, octal, binary and text mode. New input can be
inserted into the file or it can replace current data just like
in a common text editor. Undo/Redo functionality is included as
well as formatted printing and HTML export. Supports XDND. KHexEdit
is designed to integrate into the KDE environment but can be used as a stand
alone program as long as the KDE and Qt libraries are installed on
your computer. Both Qt-2.x and Qt 1-4x are supported.

Here is the full list of changes for this release:

* New feature: Hex/Oct/Bin/Dec/ASCII chart with insert capability
* New feature: Export as HTML (tables, colors, toc page.) WYSIWYG with a few
expections.
* New feature: Export dialog improved.
* No more use of getopt_long() because this function does not
exist in all (KDE supported) OS.
* Backported from Qt 2.x to Qt 1.4x version
- -------------------------------
+ Extended "Preference dialog box".
+ Remember cursor position from one session to the next.
+ Clear "Recent" list on demand or on exit.
* Qt 2.x version only
- ---------------
+ New feature: DnD (XDND) of selected editor data (binary or text)
+ String Extractor uses fixed font again.
+ Bugfix: Quite a number of compiler warnings (with --pedantic)
removed.
+ Bugfix: Used the name "export" various places. Not clever since
it is a C++ keyword.
+ Bugfix: Correct redrawing (and faster) when marked text is unmarked.
+ Bugfix: Avoiding keypress error sounds when Alt/Control/Enter
etc is pressed in editor area.

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

Announcing the release of hinv for Linux, version 1.4pre1.

Hinv is a rip-off of an SGI tool which prints out the Hardware INVentory
of your Linux system.

Changelog:

#       1.3-1.4
#       -------
#               Tue Jul 20 20:24:03 IST 1999
# The OSS changes work fine on OSS included in the kernel.
# Changed the IDE code around:
#               - No more duplicate IDE's
# - Use a hash instead of an array
# - Change to give more verbose output
# CPU code changed to handle new 2.2.x /proc/cpuinfo style
# Sound code changed to use /proc/sound (doesn't automatically
#               load sound drivers).
# Display parallel ports from /proc/parport/*
# Get memory info from /proc/meminfo rather than dmesg (which
#               scrolls around)
# Larry has agreed to to GPL the code... Eyahooo!
#
# There are still problems in the CPU counting code. Please
# send samples of /proc/cpuinfo and hinv output for multi-CPU
#       systems.
#                                       -- Raju Mathur

Subject: Cyrus SASL library 1.5.5
Date: Sun, 22 Aug 1999 18:04:55 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

I'm pleased to announce the release of the Cyrus SASL library, version
1.5.5. This release incorporates a whole slew of bugfixes, improved
support for DIGEST-MD5, and a built-in method for checking plaintext
passwords. Additionally, we've brought the Windows support up to date
and it should now work.

In addition to supply authentication for Cyrus imapd, the Cyrus SASL
library can be used to easily integrate secure authentication to any
client or server application.

Existing secrets databases will have to be converted to work with
1.5.5.

Download libsasl at:
<url:ftp://ftp.andrew.cmu.edu/pub/cyrus-mail/cyrus-sasl-1.5.5.tar.gz>

Please send any and all feedback to cyrus-bugs@andrew.cmu.edu or to
the Cyrus SASL mailing list at cyrus-sasl@lists.andrew.cmu.edu.

Join cyrus-sasl by sending mail to
cyrus-sasl-request@lists.andrew.cmu.edu.

Enjoy,
Larry Greenfield
