                 Version 1.40 of NFTP is available.

NFTP is a powerful interactive textmode ftp client for BeOS Intel,
FreeBSD, Linux, OS/2, Solaris (SPARC) and Windows 95/98/NT.

Main features of NFTP are:

 remote directory view is fully scrollable with minimum keystrokes required;
 remote directory contents is cached during one session -- you'll never have
      to wait for retrieving the same listing;
 marking files for download/upload: you don't need to type filenames at all;
 remote file viewing is simple and intelligent, and viewed files are
      cached as well;
 you can see client-server negotiation (even complete history during
      all run);
 NFTP has batch progress indicator (you see how long the entire
      operation will take if more than one file was selected to
      transfer);
 file selection is simple and allows to view remote files while
      marking others to transfer;
 you can skip files during transfer while continuing to
      download/upload the rest;
 you can mark files in different directories and then retrieve them
      all, keeping directory structure (therefore you can transfer
      entire directory trees);
 NFTP automatically downloads 00index.txt/FILES.BBS/etc. and shows
      file descriptions;
 NFTP reconnects to ftp server as needed -- you'll no longer worry
      about timeouts and dropped connections;
 you can sort remote directories by name, size, date/time;
 two-level hierarchical bookmark system is quick and efficient;
 configurable history keeps track of all sites you visit and allows
      to recall them instantly;
 comprehensive transfer logging;
 interface to external download programs (e.g. GNU wget);
 available on multiple platforms with the same user interface
      (BeOS Intel, FreeBSD, Linux, OS/2, Solaris, Windows 95/NT);
 comes in English, Bulgarian, Brazilian Portuguese, Chinese,
      Danish, Dutch, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese,
      Norwegian, Russian, Spanish, Swedish and Ukrainian versions.

More information including links for downloading is available from
http://www.ayukov.com/

NFTP is shareware, so you have to pay for it to transfer files
larger than 1024KB. The registration fee is $25. Unix and BeOS
versions are free until 1 February 1999. The fastest and safest
way to register is via BMT Micro (http://www.bmtmicro.com).
One registration covers all versions (including future ones)
on all platforms.

From: raman@Adobe.COM (Raman T. V.)
Subject: Emacspeak-9.0 - Speech-enabled Emacs desktop
Date: Tue, 27 Oct 1998 12:16:34 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

                       Announcing Emacspeak-9.0 (BlackLab)
                       -----------------------

For Immediate Release:

San Jose, Calif., (October 24, 1998)
    Emacspeak99: Preparing For The Next Millenium
    --Interactive Accessibility enhances Speech-Enabled Desktop

About Emacspeak:
- ---------------

Emacspeak is a fully functional audio desktop that provides
complete eyes-free access to all major 32 and 64 bit
operating environments. By seamlessly blending all aspects of
the Internet such as Web-surfing and electronic messaging
into the audio desktop, Emacspeak enables speech access to
local and remote information with a consistent and
well-integrated user interface.

Major Enhancements:
- -------------------

0) Support for nested HTML tables to further enhance Emacspeak's
already efficient navigation and browsing of structured and
multicolumn WWW pages.

1)Fluent spoken access to database applications.

2) Speech-enabled support for creating and maintaining XML documents..

3) Speech-enabling extensions for the following:

    A)Speech-enabled SQL: emacspeak-sql.el
    B)Network utilities: emacspeak-net-utils.el
    C) Enhanced Perl Mode:CPerl: emacspeak-cperl.el
    D) Speech-enabled on-the-fly spell checking.
    E) Speech-enabled hyperlink navigation in online help buffers.
    F)Locating Emacs source code: emacspeak-find-func.el

4) Additional user-visible enhancements:

Emacspeak 9.0 speech-enables all new features introduced in
Emacs 20.3.

See the release notes for additional details. The Emacspeak
source distribution now includes a structured FAQ list
designed to introduce new and old users to the Emacspeak
environment.

Preparing For The Next Millenium:
- ---------------------------------

Emacspeak is now bundled with all major Linux distributions;
however, users can rest assured that this present version
was not released prematurely to defeat anti-trust concerns.

At the same time, Emacspeak 99 continues to innovate in the
area of speech interaction and carries forward the
well-established Emacs tradition of introducing user
interface features that eventually show up in commercial
user environments. On this theme, when recently challenged
by a proponent of a crash-prone but well-marketed windowing
system with the assertion "Emacs is a system from the 70's",
the creator of Emacspeak expressed surprize at the unusual
candor manifest in the assertion that it would take popular
idiot-proof interfaces until the year 2070 to catch up to
where the Emacspeak audio desktop is today.

Industry experts welcomed this refreshing breath of Courage
Certainty and Clarity (CCC) at a time when users are reeling
from the Fear Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD) unleashed by
complex software systems backed by meven more convoluted
press releases.

History:
- --------

Emacspeak-9.0 --(AKA Emacspeak 99) code named BlackLab--
continues to innovate in the areas of speech interaction and
interactive accessibility.  Emacspeak-8.0 --(AKA
Emacspeak-98++) code named BlackDog-- is a major upgrade to
the speech output extension to Emacs. Emacspeak-95 (code
named Illinois) was released on the Internet in May 1995 as
the first complete speech interface to UNIX workstations.
The subsequent release, Emacspeak-96 (code named Egypt) made
available in May 1996 provided significant enhancements to
the interface. Emacspeak-97 (Tennessee) went further in
providing a true audio desktop. Emacspeak-98 integrated
Internetworking into all aspects of the audio desktop to
provide the first fully interactive speech-enabled WebTop.

Subject: fortune 0.2 released
Date: Tue, 27 Oct 1998 12:42:30 GMT

=====BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE=====

fortune is a light-weight re-write of the BSD fortune program that does
not need strfile but uses mmap instead.

Version 0.2 adds the capability to use multiple files, regular
expression matching and a man-page.

All of these changes were done by David Frey (check the ChangeLog for
his email), who also made fortune a Debian package. Thanks, David!

I uploaded it to sunsite, but you can also get it from

  ftp://ftp.fu-berlin.de/pub/unix/games/fortune/

It is public domain, so any Linux distribution can add it if they want.
Oh, and that would make my very happy, too ;)

Felix

What's new ?

* v0.2.1
    - minor bugfixes
    - optimized configure
    - added manpages
    - changed name of the archive
      old: psearch-v{version}.src.tar.gz
      new: psearch-{version}.tar.gz

What is psearch ?

Psearch is a search-prog for files located in ftp/pub
at localhost and with psearchd also at remote hosts.

This software was especially written for usage from
within the hamradio net. Because this net is quite
unstable an archie known from the inet could not be
used sensibly.

For a big ftp-server psearch is not useful. Therefore
you should use a different soft with a real database.

You can download the current version from

ftp://sunsite.unc.edu/pub/Linux/system/network/info-systems/psearch-0.2.1.tar.gz

PRESS RELEASE

POWERflex Corporation is pleased to announce the release of PFXplus for
LINUX version 4.30, available immediately! Built on RedHat LINUX 5.1,
kernel build 2.0.34, the LINUX port is available for PFXplus Development
Licences and Distribution Runtimes. This superb product is of the same
high quality and standard as the full range of existing PFXplus products
and as with all of our products, comes with a 30 day money back
guarantee. Check it out; you won't be disappointed!

POWERflex Corporation is the developer and manufacturer of a high
performance multi-user Application Development Software product called
PFXplus, or POWERflex. With it you can create industrial strength
commercial quality network business applications which are portable
between MSDOS, OS/2, Unix (including SCO, LINUX and Xenix) and Windows
3.1, 95-98 or NT. POWERflex is an extremely fast and powerful product
capable of handling extremely large data files.

Selected Features of PFXplus:

        Fast, Industrial Strength Database, first released in 1989,
        which is under continuous development and enhancement.

        Highly portable code at both the source and runtime level.

        Some of the UNIX platforms on which PFXplus is available: AIX,
        HP-UX, SCO Xenix, SCO UNIX, DEC Alpha. Contact us if you want
        to know about your platform.

        Compile on any Intel x86 architecture machine, run on any Intel
        x86 machine, whether it is running MS-DOS, SCO UNIX, Windows 9x,
        SCO Xenix, Windows NT, or Linux, or any machine with the same
        byte order.

        Database files are byte order independent, move data from a RISC
        machine to a PC without having to unload and reload data.

        All UNIX platforms support the same functionality, if you can do
        it on one, you can do it on others.

Products developed by POWERflex Corporation other than PFXplus include
the following, which support both Unix and Windows environments:

        PFXdebug - a superb source code debugger which includes a watch
                window for variables, expressions and array elements, a
                persistent variables windows, sorted name lists, gosub
                calls on call stack and more.

        PFXsort - a program used to update PXFplus database index files
                at amazingly fast speed.

        PFXbrowse - allows quick and easy look-up access to any database
                file plus optional editing capabilities.

        POWERflex Reporter - used to generate and run reports.

        PFX C-lib - a set of libraries which allow lightning fast
                access to PFXplus data files by third party languages.

Other products supporting Windows environments include:

        The PFXplus Dialog Resource Editor - allows visual manipulation
                of screen layouts; a very useful tool for PFXplus for
                Windows developers.

        The PFXplus ODBC Driver - allows access to data contained in
                PFXplus file format from any ODBC compliant front-end
                application.

        PFXplus Driver for Crystal Reports - coming soon, which will
                allow PFXplus data files to be accessed by Seagate
                Crystal Reports.

One the most exciting and unique features of PFXplus is that in Win16
and Win32 environments it allows developers to migrate their character
mode applications to Windows without rewriting the source code. That's
right! It is possible to retain existing procedural code and still
convert character- mode programs to graphical mode with a true Windows
appearance, Windows features, graphical user interface, mouse control,
windows messaging - the works!
