Subject: ANNOUNCE: BEAST/BSE v0.6.4

BEAST/BSE version 0.6.4, BSE-ALSA version 0.6.4 and BSE-PortAudio
version 0.6.4 are available for download at:

    ftp://beast.gtk.org/pub/beast/v0.6/
or
    http://beast.gtk.org/beast-ftp/v0.6/

This is a development version of BEAST/BSE, the BEdevilled Audio SysTem
and the Bedevilled Sound Engine. BEAST is a powerful music composition
and modular synthesis application released as free software under the
GNU GPL and GNU LGPL, that runs under unix. BSE-ALSA is an ALSA driver
and BSE-PortAudio is an experimental PortAudio driver for BSE.
The project is hosted at:

    http://beast.gtk.org

A mailing list is available at:

    http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/beast/

GUI skins, example sounds and instrumets for BEAST/BSE as well as
screenshots can be found at:

    http://beast.gtk.org/browse-bse-files.html
    http://beast.gtk.org/screenshots/index.html

This new development series of BEAST comes with a lot of the internals
redone, many new GUI features and a sound generation back-end separated
from all GUI activities.

Outstanding new features include support for skins, many sample
file formats, MIDI file import abilities, an improved piano roll
widget, the track editor which allows for easy selection of
synthesisers or samples as track sources, loop support in songs,
mixer support, unlimited Undo/Redo capabilities and MIDI automation.

Overview of Changes in BEAST/BSE 0.6.4:

* Fixed storage logic that caused data loss when overwriting BSE files
* Added -N and -n=<nicelevel> options to drop nice level priorities
* Removed libbsw from package, glue code is inlined now
* GCC-3.4 build fixes
* Fixed high CPU consumption on scope updates
* Added spectrogram view for module outputs
* Minor GUI fixups and miscellaneous other buglet fixes
* Updated Canadian English translation [Adam Weinberger]
* Updated British English translation [David Lodge]
* Updated Czech translation [Miloslav Trmac]
* Updated Dutch translation [Tino Meinen]
* Updated Spanish translation [Jorge Gonzalez]

Overview of Changes in BSE-ALSA 0.6.4:

* Build fixes.

Initial Release of BSE-PortAudio 0.6.4:

* Provide a PortAudioV19 PCM driver for BSE

From: Eli Barzilay <eli@barzilay.org>
Subject: PLT Scheme 209 available

PLT Scheme v209 is now available from

    http://download.plt-scheme.org/

* Several small errors in the ProfessorJ compiler have been corrected.
Additionally, the native method interface has been updated to
provide more access to class members by the native method.

* The interfaces and implementations for several HtDP and HtDCH
  teachpacks have changed:
+ the World class for HtDCH now supplies 'draw' and 'erase' methods
+ its event callbacks are guaranteed to call erase before and draw
after handling a tick or keyboard event
  + the world.ss teachpack provides a nw:rectangle function for
creating rectangles whose pinhole is in the northwest corner.

* Oleg Kiselyov's SSAX/SXML is included in the distribution.

The SSAX/SXML libraries provides functions for reading, writing and
manipulating XML data. In addition, the package supports the
definition of XML languages and exports machinery for transforming
XML documents based on concise specifications. SSAX/SXML is the
foundation for a variety of other XML packages in Scheme. For more
information, see http://ssax.sourceforge.net/ and the documentation
  in the "ssax" collection.

* Swindle is now included and maintained with PLT Scheme.

Swindle is an extension of PLT Scheme. The main feature is a
CLOS-like object system based on Tiny-CLOS from Xerox. Additional
syntactic extensions include: :keyword values and optional CL-style
argument lists; syntactic sugar for `define's and `let's; generic
  `set!'; `defsubst' & `letsubst' for defining simple macros,
`letsyntax', `letsubst' and `letmacro' than can bind identifier
macros; a list-comprehension macro `list-of' with an extensive
generic version `collect'; an `echo' mechanism for complex output
formatting including list iterations; customizing printings via a
`print-object' generic; `amb', adopted from Dorai's TYSiFD, and
  more.

Like Scheme in DrScheme, Swindle has several language levels. It is
also possible to use its features on a selective basis.

Those extensions that are not directly related to Tiny CLOS are
  likely to migrate into MzLib.

========== Forwarded message ==========

The website has been migrated from ASP to PHP

The website (www.forumsocialmundial.org.br) has been finally migrated from ASP
technology to free technology (PHP) after 5 months of hard work. The website
has over 4 thousand pages and 19 sections. etc in total. Besides the migration
to free software, the website now presents also 3 new sections, "WSF in the
Media", "Press Room" and "Social Forums around the world".

"WSF in the media" will republish articles on World Social Forum process: the
annual world meeting as well as various regional, local forums and preparatory
events, etc. Alternative media will be given priority.

"Press Room" is specific for people working with communication and who are
interested in spreading information on WSF 2005. This section has an electronic
press kit, with releases, radio bulletins, agenda suggestions, information on
infrastructure for press at WSF 2005, a list of contacts amidst other
information.

Besides the two above mentioned sections, there is "Social Forums around the
world", which gathers all regional, local, thematic meetings that take place
within WSF process.

Even though the main task is done, there are still small corrections to be
made. We count on you in this work of identifying problems such as: broken
links, pages that appear in different languages than the indicated one,
download files not found. In order to help us, if you find some mistakes,
please, send a message at the e-mail: fsmsite@forumsocialmundial.org.br
