Subject: Guikachu 1.4.2: GNOME Resource editor for PalmOS projects
This message is in MIME format. The first part should be readable text,
while the remaining parts are likely unreadable without MIME-aware tools.
Dear users of both large and small computing tools,
A new stable release of Guikachu is available.
About Guikachu
=============Guikachu is a GNOME application for graphical editing of resource
files for PalmOS-based pocket computers. The user interface is
modelled after Glade, the GNOME UI builder.
Catch it all from http://cactus.rulez.org/projects/guikachu/
Features
======= * Uses GNOME-VFS, you can load files from anywhere, e.g. from the
Web, from an SMB share, from a tarball.
* Exporting to/importing from PilRC .rcp files
* Support for non-Palm PilRC targets (like the eBookMan)
* Support for the following PalmOS resource types:
- String and string list resources
- Dialog resources
- Menu resources
- Form resources
- Bitmap resources
- Per-application resources (e.g. version number)
* WYSIWYG Form Editor, with drag & drop capability and visual resizing
* Flexible, complete undo support
* Sample file with sample GNU PalmOS SDK-based application
* Documentation (a complete user's manual)
About these releases
===================* GCC 3.4 build fixes (Frederic Crozat)
* RCP importer memory leak plugged
* RCP exporter fix (Tobias Gruetzmacher)
Guikachu uses GTKmm and GNOMEmm for its user interface. I/O is
implemented via GNOME-VFS, the XML storage format is managed with the
libxml package. Dialog windows are loaded via libglade. GConf is used
to store user preferences. You will need the versions of these
packages available in the GNOME 1.4 bundle (with the exception of
GNOMEmm which you will need to upgrade to the recently released
version 1.2.4). The ImageMagick library is used for managing bitmap
resources. To actually create the PalmOS resource files, you will also
need PilRC (part of the GNU PalmOS SDK) to compile the .rpc files
produced by Guikachu.
Beware of bugémons!

Subject: Always Current Lineox Enterprise Linux 3.032 Available for 64-bit
Always Current Lineox Enterprise Linux 3.032 Available for 64-bit x86_64
Architecture
20. Aug. 2004
Always Current Lineox Enterprise Linux 3.032 is the first version Lineox
released for x86_64 in addition to IA32 (known also as i386)
architecture. x86_64 release doesn't have GFS (Global File System), but
otherwise it has all the programs that IA32 version has. GFS was removed
because it confuses the installation program to install additional wrong
kernel versions. GFS will however be offered as a part of Lineox
Enterprise Linux updates in a similar way as previously added Lineox
Application Server.
The x86_64 release requires either AMD Opteron or Athlon64 CPU based
computer. Some new Intel Xeon and Pentium IV CPU's that have EM64T
(Extended Memory 64 Technology) should also be able to run this version.
Plenty of Bugs and Limitations Gone
DVD versions of Lineox Enterprise Linux are distributed as image files
from Apache web server. They are over 2GB in size and must be split to
many pieces because the 32-bit versions of Apache can't handle any files
bigger than 2GB. This is also a problem for busy sites because log files
may grow over that limit. Another example dear to Lineox programmers is
mc (Midnight Commander, a Norton Commander clone). It is no longer
actively maintained and suffers also from 2GB file size limit. It is
however very handy for programmers dealing with rpm packages because you
can "dive" in to rpm packages, view the files in them etc. and thus it
helps to avoid cluttering disks with many small files. So 64 bits gives
a new lease of life to many old programs too. Big file support is also
comparatively new code and should therefore have more latent bugs than
simpler small file code.
"With the already low prices of 64-bit computers, I believe Lineox won't
buy any more 32-bit machines." Said Raimo Koski, one of the Lineox founders.
Availability, Pricing
Always Current Lineox Enterprise Linux 3.032 x86_64 release is available
as free download, but next versions will be available first as paid
downloads only. The most recent IA32 release of Always Current Lineox
Enterprise Linux available for free is 3.011 and new x86_64 releases
will be also made free with 3 to 6 months delay. x86_64 pricing will be
same as for IA32.

Subject: OpenRADIUS 0.9.9 - A stable and flexible RADIUS server (GPL)
Date: 20 Aug 2004 15:50:11 GMT
Hello everyone,
It's been a while since the last release, but it's there: OpenRADIUS 0.9.9.
Lots of good stuff in the new release, including:
- database driven proxying,
- a schema plus configuration- and behaviour files for PostgreSQL,
- a contributed NTLM module for authenticating against Windows servers,
- an improved RADIUS client (which is indeed used to implement the proxy),
- and of course a few bugfixes.
Get it at
http://www.openradius.net/download/openradius-0.9.9.tar.gz
OpenRADIUS is a modular and extensible RADIUS server that has a fast but
language-neutral module interface, an extremely flexible dictionary, and
a built-in programming language to fully specify the authentication flow.
It differs from FreeRADIUS in that modules are simple, external and need
not be written in C, but can be written in any language that supports
Unix pipe I/O. It does not suffer from fork/exec performance penalties,
as the external programs are kept running instead of spawning them for
every individual request as Exec-Program-Wait does.
See http://www.openradius.net for more information.
Kind regards,
Emile.

Dear Friends,
the www.linuxcdrom.co.nr site has gone through a long awaited site
update. In fact most parts of the site has been revamped to provide
better interface to users. Among new additions there is cd cost
calculator and the announcement list is now functional. Also a new batch
of latest distros has been added and more will be added in near future too.

Announcing the Federal Way Linux User Group (FWLUG) in Federal Way,
WA, USA.
Neighboring regions include Seattle, Tacoma, and is often referred to
as the Greater Puget Sound Area.
Some friends and I have decided to investigate whether or not to form
yet
another LUG in the Puget Sound area. The first meeting will be held at
the
Federal Way Regional Library in the conference room, Thursday August
26, 2004
from 5:30PM to 6:30PM. All interested parties are invited, even if you
don't
live in or near Federal Way.
The agenda is a discussion on whether we should form, what we should
have as
our initial goals, when and where we should meet, and what kind of
structure
we should have.
