InterSystems’ CACHÉ 5 Combines with QuadraMed Affinity
to Increase HIS Performance for Hunterdon Healthcare

CACHÉ Performance, RAD Environment, Object Capabilities Formula for
                                 Success

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—February 23, 2004—InterSystems Corporation today
announced that Hunterdon Healthcare System has gone live with a CACHÉ 5
upgrade for its Web-native Affinity® HIS from QuadraMed® Corporation
(OTCBB:QMDC.OB). The announcement came during the HIMSS 2004 conference
in Orlando, Fla.

InterSystems develops and markets the CACHÉ post-relational database,
the leading database in healthcare, which is running in all of the top
10 hospitals in America, as rated by U.S. News and World Report.

Hunterdon is a non-profit healthcare organization in Flemington, N.J.,
committed to providing a full range of quality services that respond to
the needs of the community. Hunterdon Healthcare System has partnered
with the Hunterdon Physician Practice Association to form Hunterdon
Healthcare Partners LLC, an integrated delivery network (IDN) with
facilities in 21 locations that handle approximately 347,000 patient
encounters annually. Recognized for innovation in use of information
technology, Hunterdon has been on Hospitals & Health Networks’ list of
the nation’s “Most Wired” medical centers for the last four years.

Performance, RAD, Object Technology Drive New Implementation

Hunterdon’s decision to upgrade to CACHÉ 5 in late 2003 was driven by a
commitment to increasing overall system performance, according to CIO
Glenn Mamary. “We were in the process of putting up a backup/recovery
hotsite in a remote location,” says Mamary. “The speed and reliability
of CACHÉ 5 proved very attractive in enabling that project. In a
disaster recovery situation, we’re now able to come up in less than two
hours with a backup database. That’s extremely important when you’re
running critical systems 24 x 7 on a network that supports about 900
information users.”

In addition, the CACHÉ RAD platform and sophisticated object
functionality will support new Hunterdon initiatives. “The RAD
environment makes it easy to apply modifications so that QuadraMed can
quickly respond to our specific requirements,” Mamary says. “And, we see
object technology as key for new development…that’s where we’re going
with our in-house projects, because it’s more streamlined and because
the Web is, in fact, inherently object-oriented.”

A long-time QuadraMed customer, Hunterdon is fully leveraging the
components of the Affinity Healthcare Information System (HIS). “The
applications are extremely comprehensive, and the information
connectivity is virtually seamless,” notes Mamary. “And, they have an
open architecture, which means Affinity and CACHÉ interact smoothly with
our in-house systems. That’s a benefit of the strong partnership between
QuadraMed and InterSystems.”

Mamary expects to continue receiving that benefit as Hunterdon
implements a series of new systems in 2004. Plans call for an increased
focus on adding wireless system access to the IDN’s physician order
entry system and some work with tablet PCs.

“We’re committed to supporting Hunterdon’s new initiatives,” says
InterSystems Vice President of Strategic Planning Paul Grabscheid. “Our
strong working relationship with QuadraMed ensures that they can focus
on executing their business and IT strategy in the most optimal way.”

According to QuadraMed Chief Technology Officer Dean Souleles,
“Hunterdon is nationally recognized for its progressive approach to
implementing leading-edge HIS technology. InterSystems has proven once
again to deliver solid performance. We’re pleased to have them as our
partner at this, as well as other healthcare provider organizations.”

Canadian Clinics Improve Care Delivery, Cut Costs
With CACHÉ-based Asystar Medical Record Solutions

CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—February 23, 2004—InterSystems Corporation today
spotlighted clinics in two Canadian provinces that have reached the twin
goals of quality care delivery and cost reduction with practice
management software built on the post-relational CACHÉ database. The
Dorval Family Health Network and the Brandon Clinic are achieving their
medical and business objectives with Asystar Medical Record Solutions,
an InterSystems application partner. The successful implementations were
part of a round of announcements made by InterSystems at the HIMSS 2004
conference in Orlando, Fla.

InterSystems, which develops and markets the CACHÉ database, is the
leading provider of database technology in healthcare. All of the top 10
hospitals in America, as rated by U.S. News and World Report, are
running CACHÉ-based systems. Asystar Medical Record Solutions
specializes in providing medical practice management software with
computerized medical records for clients across Canada and the United
States.

RAD Platform Plus Sophisticated Querying Help Recover Revenue

Located in Oakville, Ontario, the Dorval Family Health Network was the
first Family Health Network (FHN) in Onatiro. Under the FHN model,
physicians work with other healthcare professionals to provide primary
care and advice on a 24 x 7 basis. “The emphasis here is on prevention
and comprehensive care,” explains Dr. George Southey, lead physician of
the Dorval Family Health Network. CACHÉ rapid application development
capabilities played a major role when the physician group transitioned
from fee-for-service to the FHN model, according to Southey.

“The CACHÉ platform enabled rapid, easy development of new functions. As
a result, Asystar was able to build additional features, including the
capability to create and maintain a patient roster, the ability to
update demographics from government reports and the ability to make the
changes needed to meet standards that are rewarded with the new payment
system,” Southey says. “For example, Asystar built a customized routine
that made it possible to synchronize our patient registration data with
the registration information of the government of Ontario in just six
hours. That includes creating and fully testing the functionality so it
could be rolled into production.”

Asystar also built a sophisticated querying capability on the CACHÉ
platform that generates automatic reminders of required preventive
procedures when a patient’s record is displayed. The FHN model includes
specific preventive and immunization targets, including: providing flu
immunizations for 80 percent of the patient population over the age of
65; pap smears for 80 percent of the target population; mammograms for
75 percent of women ages 50-70; and complete childhood immunizations for
95 percent of the target group.

Using CACHÉ-based Asystar functions such as the automatic reminders,
each of the six physicians within the Dorval Family Health Network will
achieve the stated maximum thresholds by the annual deadline, according
to Southey. “We’ve more than doubled our achievement rate,” he says.
“The services prompted by the reminders mean improved care delivery, and
they are also a direct source of increased revenue under the FHN
system.”

Performance, Reliability is Critical to Practice Success

CACHÉ-based Asystar has had a similarly positive impact on the bottom
line of the Brandon Clinic, a 33-physician facility with a full lab and
X-ray, in Brandon, Manitoba. “We make extensive use of the Asystar
online laboratory and consultation modules, which quickly eliminated
paper shuffling throughout the organization,” says Andy Brown,
administrator at the clinic. “By cutting paperwork, physicians are able
to see more patients, and that means an increased revenue stream.

“The reliability of the CACHÉ database and the Asystar application is
very impressive,” Brown continues. “Additionally, CACHÉ delivers
performance at the speed physicians expect and require.” Overall
satisfaction with the system rose even more when users began accessing
the application via the Web. “Physicians are now able to work securely
from their homes, and installation cost and time have been significantly
decreased,” Brown says. “Overall, CACHÉ and Asystar have proven to be
extremely cost-effective.”

Expansion in the Canadian market is a part of InterSystems’ growth
strategy, according to InterSystems Vice President of Strategic Planning
Paul Grabscheid. “We’re extremely pleased by the increase in market
share that Canada-based application partners like Asystar are beginning
to see,” he says. “We are committed to supporting these firms and their
customers with ongoing R&D initiatives to ensure they can leverage
technology breakthroughs as rapidly as possible.”
