Sounds like you installed a new kernel without rerunning lilo..

Boot from the floppy, mount the harddrive, ie mount -t ext2 /dev/hda1
/mnt
and rerun lilo with lilo -C /mnt/etc/lilo.conf

If your bootable partition isn't /dev/hda1; modify accordingly.
