Yeah, I've been doing the same for years.  The perc3/dc's use the very
mature megaraid driver under linux.  It's rock solid.

Finally we came up with adding PERC3/DC cards into the 2650 servers, to
at least be able to start using them (in a reliable state).   It's an
extra cost indeed, and a pitty that you can't use the onboard DI, but at
least you can start using the server(s).
