But the question is: Would you want that? In situations where this works you  
probably have a high quality scan of a quality score,  


Exactly.   The best success I've had is scanning the Neue Mozart Ausgabe scores (the \
full scores are all on line for free!) of substantial works (a Vespers and a Mass) to \
make instrumental parts.
