Changing the default encoding does not make any difference (I discovered
the bug when using CP 1250; it also happens when it is set to ISO 8859-2
or UTF-8).

locale output:

$ locale
LANG=
LC_CTYPE=sk_SK.UTF-8
LC_NUMERIC="POSIX"
LC_TIME="POSIX"
LC_COLLATE="POSIX"
LC_MONETARY="POSIX"
LC_MESSAGES="POSIX"
LC_PAPER="POSIX"

LC_ADDRESS="POSIX"
LC_TELEPHONE="POSIX"
LC_MEASUREMENT="POSIX"
