Hi abssorb,
this is because 0 represent the start date and one of default values is date
31/12/1899.
You can see and set the date for (0) start date in
Menu/Tools/Options/LibreOffice Calc/Calculation - Date.

Because deleting A1 with delete, (Ctrl+1 to see how date format remains) only
clear the cell content no the cell format. To clear all (you can select what)
the key is Backspace. Using Backspace (all) the A2 format is reverted.

I think there is not a bug.
Changed the status to resolved notabug, if you are not agree please reopen it.
