Hi Rob,

You have to install the netsnmpd.lrp, libm.lrp and libsnmp.lrp 
packages on the router and open the correct ports in shorewall.
You can find some info about how to configure snmpd in the RRD doc.
Prtg/mrtg is indeed like rrd.
