Yeah, kdesdk doesn't exist in RHEL7 at all, all its components were split
up. Kate should be in a package all its own:

$ rpm -q kate
kate-4.10.5-3.el7.x86_64

I guess this is missing from the AWS version of RHEL for some reason.

If you're paying AWS for RHEL or are using the free tier, please contact
AWS support and inform them that the above RPM is missing from the RHEL
repositories on AWS and they'll sync up with Red Hat and get it fixed. If
you paid Red Hat directly, you can contact them directly.

Alternatively/while you're waiting, you could try CentOS 7 instead:
https://aws.amazon.com/marketplace/pp/B00O7WM7QW

Unlike RHEL they use the same repositories everywhere so I'm sure the kate
package is there. (Better yet, try CentOS on a local computer instead.
Learning a new desktop via VNC sounds awful to me... ;-)

You could also download the kate and kate-libs packages from CentOS and
install them in RHEL just fine as they're binary compatible, but that is
not supported and you won't get updates automatically for them. Better to
have RH fix it or just use CentOS directly.
