I did not follow kate / ktexteditor development at all for the past two years 
or so, so sorry, if the following is totally out of touch:

I think keeping this makes a lot of sense until there is a way to tell 
ktexteditor to place the search bar somewhere outside the view, and / or to 
share one search bar across several views. Lack of this looks like a fairly 
valid reason for an app to implement their own search UI (without having to 
re-implement the search itself) to me.
