Summary: kate open write-able file in readonly mode
           Product: kate
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: unspecified
        OS/Version: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: NOR
         Component: general
        AssignedTo: kwrite-devel@kde.org
        ReportedBy: stefan.siegl@gmx.de

Version: 3.1.3 (using 4.1.3 (KDE 4.1.3), Kubuntu packages)
Compiler: cc
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.27-9-generic

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 8.10. Now I used kate to open a log file
(testclient.log) which is read and writeable with the current user (I tried to
open and write to this file using gedit and vi and it worked) but the file is
opened in read-only mode, so i cannot change anything.

But it gets stranger. I got the respective log file by copying it from the
server using scp. As mentioned kate was not able to open this file with write
mode enabled. Now I tried to create a new file on my local computer (test.log),
add something and stored it again. Now kate was able to open the file in write
mode.

Here are the files mentioned:
bugsy@bugsy:~$ ls -al | grep test
-rw-r--r-- 1 bugsy bugsy 700816 2009-01-29 10:03 testclient.log
-rw-r--r-- 1 bugsy bugsy 6 2009-01-29 10:27 test.log
