? I cannot see problem here -- you delete line. Is the same as asking how it is \
possible to move one line down, without changing X pos.

a) because user is focused on that point (on the screen)
b) with long lines this causes scrolling of entire area, so after deleting line you \
no longer even see where you where (not mentioning distraction -- see (a)) c) because \
it is easier for user to get to column 0 if she/he likes,  much harder is to get back \
to X pos where she/he was -- as I said before, computer should not do trivial tasks, \
but hard ones, if user likes to do extra trivial task it simply takes pressing home

ad.c) try it yourself -- write 200 characters long lines (5 of them), put the caret \
randomly, column 100 to 200, delete line, restore (_manually_) the position \
