I do use the printf-debugging myself alot, mostly whenever I just need
to find out how a value is changed between a few method calls, simply
because its faster than firing up gdb and load an application like
kdevelop in it.

That said I usually remove all of that stuff again when I found the
problem, only leaving a few kdebug statements.

As I said I don't know the code you're all talking about, so I can't
comment how useful all this debug output is, thus I'll just shut up now
:)
