  The indentation errors are even more obscure than presumed at first:
Now suddenly without changing any options KWrite does use spaces only for indenting.
Even this setting can not make Kate insert a tab again:
* 'Use spaces instead of tabs to indent': off
* 'tab indentation': on
* 'use tabs for indentation': on
To me the indentation feature does not work at all at the moment.
