------- In the CTRL-R replace feature, putting \1 in the ‘Replace' box will replace \
a literal "\1" in the text, and not refer back to the regexp you searched for.  you \
can use positive look-ahead in some cases, but if you are not going to implement back \
references, some sort of pos/neg ‘look-behind' would be useful.

Alternatively, while you sort out the problem of searching over lines, if the sed \
style syntax (F7) were extended to do single line searches through the whole file \
(not just the current one) that would fix a lot of situations we havn't yet got a fix \
