Also reproducible here, KDE 3.5.5. from stable sources, KWrite 4.5.5.

Here is how I can reproduce it, works every time:

1. Start Konsole and KWrite
2. Konsole: 'mkdir ~/foo'
3. KWrite: create a file, save as '~/foo/bar'
4. Konsole: 'rm -rf foo'
5. KWrite: gives message about 'file deleted on disk'
6. KWrite: Choose 'save as...', dialog should start in ~. Create new directory 'foo', \
then save file as 'bar' (~/foo/bar) 7. KWrite: "The file ~/foo/bar could not be \
loaded, as it was not possible to read from it" 8. Now you file is GONE.
