Hi,

I think we should add a release note to www.kate-editor.org, and maybe also to \
kate.kde.org. It should contain all major improvements and noteworthy changes. Please \
prove-read the text - maybe some important notes are missing! :)

<snip>
What's New in Kate 2.5 (KDE 3.5)

Kate 3.5 has been released on 2005-11-29 as part of KDE 3.5. The major changes are in \
short:

- Kate Sessions
The Kate Sessions concept was introduced to replace the Kate Projects. On Kate \
startup a dialog asks which session the user wants to open. This way different file \
lists are cleanly separated. The Kate FileList now is not needed anymore and thus has \
been removed. However, many users already complained about the removal of the Kate \
Projects. We hope to bring them back as a plugin.

 - GUI Changes
So far Kate relied on KDE's KMDI library to build its graphical user interface \
(the four sidebars). Sadly, the KMDI library had some bugs and it was not trivial to \
fix them. That's why Kate 2.5 now uses a very slim rewrite of the GUI part. It does \
not support the overlap-mode, but at least is stable and does not have the annoying \
bugs KMDI had. Other improvements include
    - show tool views in the same sidebar simultaneously. Use the context menu on the \
sidebar tabs to change the persistence.
    - hide the four sidebars with "Window > Tool Views > Hide Sidebars" to gain more \
editor space - this is especially useful if shortcuts are used to toggle the tool \
views' visibility.

 - Encoding Improvements
Kate now better respects the user's choice of encoding, and it is always applied \
when a document is loaded.

 - Scripting
Now it is possible to add new commands to the [[Command Line]] by using \
Java-/ECMAScript. Read the documentation [[Scripting with JavaScript]] for further \
details.

 - HTML Export
The HTML Export feature now uses SPAN elements with inline CSS instead of \
formatting tags. Furthermore, all formatting options used in Kate are supported.

 - Closed Bugs
A list of all closed bugs can be found here.

Additional Plugins on http://kde-apps.org
The following plugins were not finished in time to make it into the final KDE 3.5 \
release.

 - The kicker-plugin "Kate Session Menu" is a taskbar-button that provides fast \
access to all the Kate Sessions. See \
http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=30745 for further details

 - The "Kate Tab Bar Plugin" was rewritten but didn't make it into KDE 3.5. You can \
find it here: http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=30331

</snip>

Greetings,

Dominik
