Summary: Unsplitting Window Causes Kate Crash
Product: kate
Version: 2.3
Platform: SuSE RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: crash
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: kwrite-devel kde org
ReportedBy: josh agliodbs com
Version: 2.3 (using KDE KDE 3.3.0)
Installed from: SuSE RPMs
Compiler: gcc (GCC) 3.3.4 (pre 3.3.5 20040809)
OS: Linux
I use Kate pretty heavily for SQL editing. I've not had this issue happen before, \
so it obviously takes some peculiar set of circumstances to cause it. As a result, \
below is everything I did; I'm not sure really what's relevant.
1) Logged into machine and started KDE.
2) Started Kate. Kate pre-loaded 40 files which were already open. None of these \
files were more than 2MB (most are a few K). 3) Kate also opened in the mode it had \
been shut down in, with 2 of the files open in "split horizontally" mode, and with \
the terminal window in the bottom. 4) I repeatedly attempted to "Close current \
window" in order to close one of the split panes. Each time, regardless of the pane \
chosen, Kate would crash instantly ... not even a KDE "this application has crashed" \
dialog (tested this about 4 times). 5) I tried closing about 1/2 of the files, hoping \
the issue was memory overload. No dice; Kate still crashed. 6) I closed *all* of \
the open files. This solved the problem.
Other options that may be relevant: I have "synch terminal with current window" \
turned OFF, and 80% of the files open were PostgreSQL-SQL files.
Unfortunately, I need to get some work done today, so I can't keep Kate around in its \
crashed state for forensics. Hopefully the above will lead you to some sort of \
useful bug analysis. Also note that this is not consistent; I use Kate very heavily \
and have used 2.3 for about 3 months without encountering this kind of behaviour.
Keep up the good work!
