remember emacs case, in xemacs it is 'Make Backup Files' option in 'Version \
Control' config group), or those ~ files are made BEFORE the files started \
being version controlled (the scenario: you create a.c, then you save it so \
a.c~ is created, then you add a.c to version control - but a.c~ is already \
