OS/Compiler notes: 

A 2-3 pixel-wide area of blank space between the edge of the text area and the window \
border would make things look a lot nicer. The selection highlight should not be \
shown in this area, but clicking in it should allow selections. In particular, \
dragging in the left hand border should select whole lines.
