Hi, have anybody a idea about this bug ?
I have commited nothing to 2.2.x branch, therefor no idea how this bug can be 
introduced in 2.2.2 (and it wasn't there in 2.2.1.

No sooner had I sent you my last question than I notice kate was displaying
some non-printing characters..
at least, that what I thought they were. little boxes are appearing after
each line. in smoe cases there's two boxes.. sometimes none.. but normally
one.

I am very confused...
what i have done recently is upgraded to kernel 2.4.15 but then gone back to
2.4.10 because I couldn't recompile certain modules for VMware.
