Hi,

In the recent weeks I have developed a new screen magnification 
algorithm, which has recently been announced at my blog[1]. Simple C 
source code to zoom a PPM image 2x is released at [2], and inspired 
Hyllian to write a GL shader, which he announced in diverse emulator 
forums[3][4].

While the new algorithm is not really suited at zooming pixel art, it 
does a good job at zooming text, which with other algorithms, usually 
looks blurry or shows ringing or aliasing, so it is especially useful 
to magnify screen shots.

Maybe someone is interested to use the shader in KWin zoom or 
magnification effects. Cannot do it myself, because my GL knowledge is 
empty :)
