Wouldn't it be a good compromise to have Aurelien's dbus menu patch included but disabled 
by default? Users could set an environmental variable to enable the menus and cope with 
possible drawbacks themselves. That way Qt itself does not officially break existing 
applications. Setting that variable would be explicitly unsupported any on the user's own 
risk.
