No, you are right.  I think that KDE-apps should have some sort of defined user
interface guidelines which should discourage application tabs.  Document lists
like in Kate are fine because they do not use the same user interface element.

Having 1 window per document allows taskbars to see inside tabs which they
cannot do with the current way.  Having window and application tabs will make
this feature very arbitrary.

This is exactly what I meant by developer free-for-all.  There does not seem to
be an overall UI design or goal.

As I said, that prevents you from closing the entire group (without an esoteric
key shortcut).  Also tablets do not have an alt-mouse combination so you can
only move with the taskbar.  On these devices a move would lead to inadvertent
window closing, maximisation etc.  Therefore this could not be a default and
adding an option for everything just leads to code bloat and option overload,
we did that with KDE3, can't we try something else?
