driver: intel, xorg-x11-driver-video-7.2-189 (openSUSE 10.3 default), own build of \
kde 4.

If I have compositing enabled but disable all effects including the common effects, \
then disable and reenable compositing, kwin shows a black screen.  The mouse cursor \
is visible though. 

The decisive effect is 'Improved window management' - if this effect is enabled kwin \
