Aha!  No; I'd changed both, but not both to plastik.  Put 'em both to plastik, \
re-enabled timed "flipping" of wallpapers, all is good, no slowdowns, kwin peaks at \
about 3.5% CPU usage when doing things.

Now... lessee... my usual "style" is Keramik... let's see what it does... nope, \
doesn't seem to be an issue.  Decorations?

We have a winner.  Window decorations.  At least some of the window decoration themes \
- crystal being a notable example - cuase kwin usage to spike.  Plastik doesn't.  And \
yes, it's consistent - use cyrstal, kwin goes nuts.  Use plastik, kwin's happy.

Hope that helps narrow it down.
