I agree, this is pretty annoying. I just played around a little with different panel \
settings, and now all the window sizes are trashed:( Kwin should never resize a \
window, unless there is no other way i.e. the window is bigger than the desktop, \
horizontally or vertically. Instead it should just move the windows, when they are \
close to the desktop border. 

And even if they have to be resized, the size(and position) should actually be \
restored when the desktop grows back to the original size. Maybe kwin could remember \
size and position for all desktop sizes a window has gone through? This would also \
fix the problems with xrandr(which was basically unusable last time I tried).
