Hi all,

i apologise if this message seems directed to the wrong mailing list,
but i thought i would start here. Almost noone else in the world
seems to have this problem, so i dont think i will get much help
elsewhere. i am also a software engineer myself, so, if people can
give me some advice on where to start I can have a go at
 finding/fixing the problem myself.

Anyway. I am being driven mad by a problem with konqueror and
enlightenment. When using detailed list view, drag and drop soon
fails on every virtual desktop except the first. Icon view continues
to work fine on every desktop ...

What happens when i drag a file from the file list over to the folder
list, is that instead of the folder highlighting in orange, i get
the round circle with diagonal line through it, indicating my file
cannot be dropped. It is absolutely infuriating, and renders
konqueror useless on every desktop except the first.

Occasionally, i have also seen another problem, whereby the
(attempted) destination folder in Konq. fails to highlight as i
mouseover with the file im dragging. Then, when i drop, up pops a
gnome create launcher window with the file path/name if the file i
am dragging entered in. That problem doesnt happen often, but once
it starts, it continues until i kill the gnome-panel. Konqueror will
then go back to the round circle, telling me i just cant drop my
 file anywhere.

The problem is unpleasantly hard to nail down. If i log in with a
brand new e config, up the number of virtual desktops to something
like my usual 2x9, everything will be fine for a while. Konqueror
will work perfectly on every desktop.

I can copy the e config aside for future reference, use e for a
while, and then suddenly drag and drop will fail for every konqueror
that is started on any desktop besides the first. Nothing seems to
bring it back once it fails, short of logging out, removing e
config, and starting again. The frustration starts when i diff a
working e config with one that fails. There are absolutely no
differences that would make e behave differently. Whats more, i have
backed up working e configs, and, once my e config fails, restoring
a previously good backup of the e config fails too. The only way to
get it working is to start with a clean e config. Its quite
 inexplicable at this stage

i never had this problem with kde 3.1, it started with kde3.2 and
 continues with kde3.3.1

The problem never happens when i do a full KDE login. So i assumed
the problem was caused by one of the kdeinit processes which
konqueror might rely on not being started when i use enlightenment.
I have therefore tried manually starting every kdeinit process i
normally see in a full kde session: knotify, kde_uiserver, klauncher
etc etc. But none of these processes help at all. I've also tried
manually running startkde to do all of that for me, and it didnt
 help.

It looks to me like konqueror is failing to receive some sort of IPC
telling it where my file is being dragged. And possibly not
receiving the drop events either - allowing gnome-panel to receive
 them sometimes, somehow.

i found this post below which describes a similar problem ages ago in
KDE 2. This fellow did not receive any feedback.

I'm using KDE 2.2 in Debian unstable with Enlightenment 0.16.5
I've noticed a couple of things:
- Konqueror doesn't swallow KJAS applets
- Drag & Drop is still broken on the second screen of a xinerama
 multihead set up.
Both these are fixed by running kwn and the KDE environment. However,
I much prefer to use E.
Has anyone had any success with using E and KDE2 together?
Thanks in advance.
Ashley

Any ideas or help tracking this problem down will be appreciated.

John
