Summary: Feature to keep apps from stealing focus doesn't work
anymore
Product: kwin
Version: unspecified
Platform: SuSE RPMs
OS/Version: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
Severity: normal
Priority: NOR
Component: general
AssignedTo: kwin@kde.org
ReportedBy: kde-contrib@msquadrat.de
Version: Unbekannt (using KDE 3.1.2)
Installed from: SuSE
Compiler: gcc version 2.95.3 20010315 (SuSE)
OS: Linux (i686) release 2.4.18
Hi,
it seems like the feature to keep new apps from stealing focus of active windows \
doesn't work anymore in KDE 3.1. I don't know exactly when it stopped working for me, \
but I think it was some time ago; I just had to reach a certain level of annoyance to \
file this bug ;-)
According to bug 44168, bug 37386 and bug 22381 was this implemented in KDE 3.0 by \
Matthias Ettrich but had a bug with Gimp and others which was fixed in 3.1. Maybe \
something went wrong with that patch?
I talked to somebody (annma) on IRC who tested it in HEAD but it didn't work for her, \
too. Also sounded like Lubos Lunak was (not) able to reproduce it, too.
Some more testing showed an even more weird behaviour:
In a special case it does work. I have Xinerama enabled with two horizontally aligned \
screens (screen1 to the left, screen2 to the right; kicker is on screen1). When I now \
type to a window on screen2 and launch an app via clicking the app symbol in kicker \
(on screen1), then it does work. It doesn't matter on which screen the new window is.
Hmmm... five minutes and some testing later it suddenly worked. Another five minutes \
later and it didn't anymore. Verrrry weird. What I described above also sometimes \
only works with some apps and others not (always different ones).
Cheers,
Malte
P.S.: Lubos, please don't just close this bug ;-)
