Eric,

To connect to HTTP servers you need to (as you point out) end up with a byte
stream
going over TCP/IP. I find it a shame that the
protocol limits the developer to having to use HTTP and it's headers, and
does not allow them
to send any byte stream (or even text stream such as an XML string) without
extra headers using the same method.

It seems that the connectivity offered by the midp at the moment is that
same as the currently deployed version of WAP which has come under criticism
from a number of groups for not having a push technology.
