I'm really glad there are people who'd like to see this feature implemented. 
I've just submitted my proposal [1] after trying to undserstand as much of 
KatePart's sourcecode as possible. If what I wrote doesn't make sense please 
tell me. I didn't think there was any interest for this idea and therefore 
didn't look into the source earlier...

Any sort of comments on my proposal is welcome.
