Hi,
The 9 planets don't need to be updated. Their orbital models are much more
sophisticated than the models used for comets and asteroids, and their
positions are accurate over a much longer timescale. See README.planetmath
for details.
The other reason comets and asteroids need to be updated is to include
newly-discovered objects (like comet McNaught (2006 P1)). This is obviously
not a frequent issue for the major planets (recent changes made to Pluto's
status notwithstanding).
