Well, I think you had better help Telepathy-kde instead. Telepathy-kde is meant to replace Kopete in the next years (or even months). There are several Kopete features that still need to be implemented in Telepathy-kde, so any help is appreciated.

I still use Kopete and sometimes apply patches to it, but once KDE switches to Qt5 there will be the end of line for Kopete because it still uses Qt3Support, which was removed from Qt5. The effort to port Kopete to Qt5 is not worth the try. The switch to Qt5 can take a couple of years to finish though.
