Thanks for the tip.  I have now managed to get this to work - as soon as 
a new spam message comes in, the contact and metacontact that it came 
from are deleted.  I think it would be really nice if this was an option 
within Kopete, as Yahoo Messenger and similar have options to ban anyone 
not on contacts list from contacting you.  This is a good setting for 
people who are a bit new to instant messaging (in my case, an elderly 
relative) and only want to talk to a few contacts already on their 
contacts list.

I will submit the patch to the author of the Antispam plugin.   I based 
the code on the patch at http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=94057 - 
this was a lot more helpful than the API docs.  Patch available if 
anyone's interested.
