Jason Keirstead (Friday 23 January 2004 12:48) > The incoming IRC data is almost never going to be UTF 8, no one uses it ( I > wish they did, but they don't ). You are *JUST NOW* realizing this? I've pointed this out *MANY* times, on the list, on BKO, on IRC, etc. etc. etc. Maybe tha words "IRC is completely unusable for me" only mean something to you when they come from somebody else? I know I said them before quite some number of times. I also suggested changing the default encoding back to ISO-8859-1, which would alleviate 99% of the problems. IRC was designed for ISO-8859-1. With the exception of a few new clients (all linux-based), no client supports using a charset other than ISO-8859-1. It's fine if you want to support UTF-8, but that is *NOT* what 99% of IRC servers/users use, and so it's an outright *STUPID* default. A default of UTF-8 makes Kopete unusable for any of the many nonenglish languages that use ISO-8859-1. The default should always be ISO-8859-1, unless overridden. You could have changed this default without violating freezes nearly as badly as you did when adding encoding selection (which was only really necessary because the default was UTF-8), which doesn't even work right. Jesus Christ, you are so fucking frustrating it's rediculous.
