I ran etherape on the connection (see attached file). It contains not XML whatsoever. \
The conclusion is that kopete internally creates invalid XML documents that were not \
there to start with.

I did that first, so I expeted the channel topic to be visible. Not!

I had to do that. Setting the character set on the channle did nothing.

So I have to look for anther client. A pity since I liked kopete. In its current \
state it s U-N-U-S-A-B-L-E.
