Well...

The new icons are actually crystal icons. So to be technical, what should be 
done is the old icons should be installed under hicolor, and the new ones 
under crystalsvg, and let KIconLoader figure out which icons to use for you.

Even this would be a step up from the current situation, since the crystal 
icons don't go with non-crystal schemes at all. And I *think* theres a way to 
run your app with a different icon set than your desktop, just like you can 
run it with a different style?

That still doesn't solve this bug in the existing crystal icons though.
